Our Costs
The Vets costs have actually gone up since creating the breakdown below,
So we will be updating this page soon with the revised individual charges we incur.
In order to give a clear insight into what we have to pay out.
And that is before taking into consideration any maintenance costs such as accomodation, food, litter, water, electricity etc
We have on more than one occasion, been asked to
justify our minimum donation of £70 and while we feel that we have nothing at
all to justify we do feel that it would be of interest to our prospective
owners (and all cat lovers in Brighton) to know the charges and costs incurred
for the veterinary treatment we provide for our cats. We provide this treatment as we believe in
homing healthy cats and would never want to lumber a new owner with unforeseen
vets bills soon after adopting their new feline friend.
Our No-Kill policy means that very often we run at a massive loss per cat and it is for this reason that we must insist on the minimum donation. Of course many of our owners do give more than the minimum donation and we are extremely grateful for that. Every bit does help and we thank all of our kind supporters for helping us to make up the difference. Without outside help like this we would never be able to provide the care that we do and would face the awful decision to have an otherwise healthy cat put to sleep simply because it’s vets bill would be too high to cover with the donation we would receive when homing it. All cats are beautiful and deserve a chance at a new and happy life and we will never put a cat to sleep if it can be treated and go on to find happiness in a new home.
Our Best Case Scenario is to take in a cat for rehoming who is already Neutered/Spayed, Fully Vaccinated (with Certificate) and in a healthy condition. Our costs in this case are quite low but sadly this hardly ever happens. For most stray or lost cats that we take in our costs start at:
£21.25 - For the initial consultation at the Vets.
£15.74 - 1st Vaccination
£15.74 - 2nd Vaccination
£6.28 - 1 Drontal & 1 Frontline for Worms & Fleas
£10.00 - Microchip
So our 'Average Cost' before Rehoming is £69.01
Our Worst Case Scenario for a cat that needs treatment but is otherwise healthy would be an unneutered stray cat with bad teeth as the costs on top of those above start to climb rapidly.
£49.09 - Spaying (for Females)
£38.38 - Neutering (for Males)
Dentistry can range from around £25 to more than £100 not including the post-op medicine.
A prime example is a stray cat we recently took in whose vets bill totaled at £153.86 after neutering and dentistry. He’s a lovely boy around 8 years old who has gone to a great new home and is really happy now and we’re more than pleased to have been able to help him. Having him put to sleep was never an option.
Of course we cannot and do not expect a prospective owner to shoulder these costs and we really hope that knowing these basic figures won’t deter someone from adopting a cat from us but we do need to highlight the absolute necessity to recoup as much from our donations as possible. With mounting vets bills and more and more cats needing help we urgently do need all the help we can get.
If you’d like to make a donation that would be fantastic or if you’d like to set up a small monthly donation please do call us and we’ll rush the paperwork out in a flash!
Thank You for reading and understanding our position.
Best Wishes
